Ambassador Sri. T.P. Sreenivasan and Dr. Jebamalai get the Dynamic Indian of the Millennium Award from KG Foundation
On 2nd April 2016 the KG Foundation, Coimbatore, conferred the Dynamic Indian of the Millennium Award on Ambassador Sri. T.P. Sreenivasan and Dr. Jebamalai. Former recipients of the Award, among others, include: Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam, Former President of India, Dr.Christian Barnard, World’s first Heart Transplant Surgeon, Dr.G. Mahavan Nair, former Chairman of ISRO, Mr. Nandan M. Niolekani, former Co-Chairman of Infosys, Dr.N.Ram, Editor-in-Chief, The Hindu Group of Publications.
Ambassador Sri. T.P. Sreenivasan is a former Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, Vienna, and Governor for India of the International Atomic Energy Agency, Vienna and Ambassador to Austria and Slovenia (2000-2004). During the 37-year tenure of office in Indian Foreign Service, serving as an Indian diplomat in several countries, including Japan, the Soviet Union, the USA, Burma, Fiji, Kenya and Austria, Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan demonstrated a high degree of professional excellence and prudent diplomacy, and did the right things for the right purpose at the right time in the right way and to the entire satisfaction of all who stand for all that is good for India. Ambassador T.P. Sreenivasan has nearly 20 years of experience in multilateral diplomacy and has represented India at a number of international conferences organised by the United Nations, the Commonwealth and the Nonaligned Movement. He has chaired several UN Committees and Conferences. He was a member of the National Security Advisory Board of the Government of India from 2009 to 2012. The books and articles authored by him speak volumes of his mastery of writing and analytical skills of a rare order. His unique style of functioning as an efficient administrator, great scholar, powerful speaker, and gentle friend won the approbation, respect and love of everybody, in particular the Indians living abroad.
Born of Sri. Vinanchiarachi and Shrimathi Viyakulamarial Vinanchiarachi in a fishermen slum at the southern tip of India, kanyakumari, Dr. Jebamalai Vinanchiarachi reached the zenith of his professional glory in the United Nations by a dint of hard work and total dedication. He retired as the Principal Adviser to the Director General of United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), Vienna, Austria. In his doctoral thesis on the East Asian model of development, he partly predicted the East Asian financial crisis. Numerous degrees with destinations and medals bear testimony to his master mind of a rare order. His research studies, UN technical reports, books and journal articles lend credence to his power of analysis of issues and options with practical insight and foresight for fostering economically efficient, ecologically friendly and socially desirable pattern of industrial development. His contribution to eradicating poverty in 147 remote villages in conflict affected Sudan is highly commended by donors and international organizations as the best model for post conflict recovery and development in terms of sensitization, target beneficiaries, local empowerment, tangible impact and sustainability.
Dr. Jebamalai Vinanchiarachi won several distinctions and awards. He won the coveted Raja Sir Annamalai Chettiar Gold Medal from St. Joseph’s College, Trichy, India, for being the best outgoing student of M.A. Economics in 1969. He was awarded twice UNIDO Director General’s award for outstanding performance. At the first World Tamil Economic Conference, he was given the Tamil Crown Jewel of the world award. The Vienna-based Kerala Community gave him a life-time achievement award as a great scholar and gentle helper. A similar life-time achievement award was given to him by the management of Pioneer Kumarasamy College, Nagercoil, where he started his career as a lecturer in 1970, for his professional excellence. He is also the recipient of the Global Excellence Award given by the Global Indian Association. The KG Foundation is pleased to honour him by conferring the “Dynamic Indian of the Millennium” award, adding another feather in his cap, as a mark of appreciation for his extraordinary performance at the international level and for using his globally accumulated knowledge and experience for fostering the transformation of India through pertinent institutions and development minded stakeholders, with a profound sense of humility and dignity.
